License Requests

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new licensing platform, designed to elevate your experience in securing permissions and licenses with Alfred Music. As part of this exciting upgrade, we are migrating to a new platform, necessitating the creation of new user accounts for all existing users.

How to Create Your New Account:

  • Visit our new licensing platform at licensing.alfred.com.
  • Register as a New User by completing the registration form provided.
  • Once registered, log in to your new account using the credentials you just created.

Choose the appropriate request type based on your needs:

  • Photocopy: A Photocopy license grants an individual or organization the legal authorization to make photocopies of a specific copyrighted material that is either out-of-print or temporarily unavailable. Please note, we cannot grant photocopy permission for titles that are currently available for purchase.
  • Festival/Adjudication: A Festival/Adjudication license grants an individual or organization the legal authorization to make authorized photocopies of out-of-print scores or musical compositions for judges of a festival, competition or evaluation. Please note, we cannot grant photocopy permission for titles that are currently available for purchase.
  • Arrangement: An arrangement license grants permission for a specific group or individual to create and perform a derivative version of a musical work. This derivative version, known as an arrangement, typically involves alterations to the original composition's instrumentation, vocal parts, or other musical elements to suit the needs or preferences of the performing group.
  • Importantly, an arrangement license is valid only for the single performing group or individual obtaining the license. This means that the permission granted by the arrangement license is limited to that particular ensemble or performer, and it does not extend to other groups or individuals.
  • Sub-publishing (Sub-Out): Sub-publishing involves the delegation of publishing rights to a third-party publisher in a specific territory or region. This grants permission to publish sheet music arrangements in both physical and/or digital formats.
  • Print: In the context of music licensing, "print" refers to the right to re-print lyrics or musical excerpts in a publication. This includes physical copies such as printed books as well as digital formats like PDFs and audiobooks.
  • Synchronization: Synchronization, often abbreviated as "sync," refers to the process of combining music with visual media such as films, TV shows, commercials, video games, or online videos. Obtaining synchronization rights allows the licensee to use the music in conjunction with visual content for physical media (DVD’s), downloads or streaming/social media (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikToc, Vimeo, or individual websites).
  • Mechanical: Mechanical rights pertain to the right to reproduce and distribute musical compositions in audio-only formats. This includes the creation of physical copies such as CDs, vinyl records, and digital downloads/streaming.
  • Performance: A performance license grants permission for the public performance of a copyrighted musical work. This license is typically required whenever a musical composition is performed in public, whether it's through live performances, concerts, recitals or any other public presentation.
    • These licenses are can also obtained from performing rights organizations (PROs) such as ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC in the United States, or similar organizations in other countries.

Complete all required fields with pertinent information about your request, such as item number, product/song title, composer/arranger.
