Alfred Music Releases Much-Anticipated Suzuki Flute Volume 1, Revised Version

The International Suzuki Association, in conjunction with Alfred Music, is pleased to announce the long-awaited release of an updated International Edition of Volume 1 of Suzuki Flute School. The result of several years of work by the International Flute Committee, this edition maintains the tradition of the Suzuki Flute School with many refinements and additions.

Though the pieces in Suzuki Flute School International Editions remain unchanged, additions include new recordings, updated fingering chart, definitions of musical terms and notation, and scholarly attributions of each piece of music. Listening tracks that include flute and piano appear first on the CD followed by piano accompaniment tracks for play-along purposes. In the future, these recordings will also be available for download and on SmartMusic.

Performing on the flute is Lorna McGhee, a Scottish flutist who is Principal Flute in the Pittsburgh Symphony and teaches at Carnegie Mellon University. McGhee is accompanied by Vahan Sargsyan, Armenian pianist who also teaches Carnegie Mellon University and performs widely both as a soloist and a collaborative pianist.

The International Flute Committee is excited that the updates, new recordings, and revisions will make the book clearer and easier to use for students and parents and is looking forward to this new release with much anticipation! The committee would like to recognize the contributions of Mr. Toshio Takahashi over many years, founder of the Suzuki Flute Method.
